The Imo state House of Assembly, controlled by the All Progressive Congress (APC), have said on Sunday, that it can’t be cowed into endorsing Governor Rochas Okorocha's son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, as a sole candidate for 2019 governorship election.
According to a report by Vanguard, the House voiced out, after one it members, Henry Ezediaro, representing Oguta state constituency, claimed that the entire 27 lawmakers had endorsed Nwosu for 2019.
This was coming after a week the lawmakers did not show up for the 2018 budget presentation, arguing that the governor should present a formal report of his past budget performance.
Investigations revealed that Nwosu’s loyalists were not happy having failed in their underground plot to pass the endorsement move in the state House of Assembly.
When contacted, Marcel Ekwezuo, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, he said that only the Speaker could speak for the House.

He reasoned that it was unthinkable for a House of Assembly, where the PDP and APC exist to have passed such a resolution.
Ekwezuo said: “The Imo state House of Assembly cannot endorse anybody. You will agree with me that the Imo state House of Assembly, their work is to make laws that will impact positively in the lives of the people.
“It does not include endorsing anybody. Imo House of Assembly is made up of not only the members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, we also have the members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“If somebody comes out to say that a house that is made up of APC, PDP, come together to endorse one candidate that is from the APC, I do not think it is right.
“I know Ugwumba Uche Nwosu is one of us, he is from the APC extraction an Imolite, he has the right to vote and be voted for, it could be a misquote. They misquoted the lawmaker from Oguta who made the statement.”
