A driver was trapped to death, while 14 other passengers sustained various degrees of injuries after two vehicles collided head-on at Gada-Biyu village, on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway Tuesday evening.
A witness said the crash happened around 6:23p.m. amid heavy downpour when an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AAA 734 XF on speed overtook another vehicle and collided with an oncoming Toyota Sienna car with registration number KUJ 75 AJ.
He said the 18-seater bus was coming from Gwagwalada axis, while the Sienna bus was coming from Lokoja end and they collided at a section of the road where there is a road diversion. He said passengers of the bus were critically injured, while the driver was trapped to death by the steering wheel.
Our reporter, who arrived the scene shortly after the accident, observed as some sympathizers struggled to remove some of the injured passengers out of the two vehicles. When contacted, the unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Moses Audu, confirmed the accident, saying 15 persons, comprising 11 males and four females were affected in the crash.
He said the corpse of the bus driver was deposited at Kwali General Hospital morgue, while the 14 injured people were taken to Abaji General hospital for medical attention. The FRSC commander further disclosed that one person died while 19 others sustained injuries in another motor accident which occurred on Saturday afternoon at Ahoko village, on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
