New Ooni of Ife, Prince Ogunwusi
Hundreds of indigenes and residents of Ile-Ife on Monday trooped to the streets of the ancient town in jubilation over the appointment of the new Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi of the Giesi Ruling House by the state government.
The state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesolaon Monday officially announced the appointment of Prince Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife through a letter signed by the Secretary to the state Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti and made available to newsmen by the Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon.
One of the Ife kingmakers who is also the secretary to Ife Traditional Council, Chief Adetoye Olatunde Odewole while speaking with Daily Trust at the Ooni’s palace said Ogunwusi was unanimously voted by 14 out of 16 kingmakers as two of them were late.
Chief Odewole explained that the selection of Ogunwusi followed the due process and that his name was submitted to the government at the weekend for official announcement.
Chief Odewole said out of the 21 contenders from the Giesi Ruling House, the Oracle approved the nomination of Ogunwusi when the Ifa was consulted and that the kingmakers also voted in tandem with the choice of the oracle.
Reacting to the appointment of Prince Ogunwusi as the new Ooni, one of the contenders, the former commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Osun State who contested against Ogunwusi, Prince Sikiru Adetona Ayedun hailed the appointment of the new monarch and congratulated him.
