Four men, Alhaji Bashir Baba, 45; Garba Musa, 39; Aminu Yusuf, 25, and
Eunice Dasebe, 36, and others still at large, were, yesterday, arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 1,400 A4 papers, 2,038 rims of 20.30 size papers and 34 packs of strong board papers worth N11,000,000.
They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretence, receiving stolen goods and stealing preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Tony Idibe, told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offence on October 10 at about 12:10p.m. at Port Folio Papers Nigeria Limited, Mushin, Lagos.
He said that the defendants on October 14, 15, 16 and 19, did receive 714 cartoons of A4 paper valued at N2,713,200, knowing same to have been stolen property of one Policap Okwara.
He said the offences were punishable under Sections 409, 285 and 326 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011. Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for any offender found guilty.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate T. Abolarinwa granted the defendants N1,000,000 bail each, with two responsible sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter till January 20, 2016 for mention.
