A 49-year-old man, Edward Campbell, who allegedly attacked a Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Dotun Olojede, was on Friday charged before an Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun state.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused residing at 23, Ilo Awera Street, Ota and facing a charge of assault, committed the offence on November 8 at about 10:30 a.m. at the RCCG, Fruitful Vine Parish, Ilo Awera, Ota.
Gbesi said the accused assaulted the pastor by stabbing him at the back with a knife, causing him serious injury.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. S.O. Banwo, in his ruling, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum, ordering that the surety must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and swear to an affidavit of means.
The Magistrate also directed that the surety should produce two years tax clearance and submit a recent passport photograph to the court, adding that the surety should produce a reasonable means of identification either through a National Voter Card, a Driver’s Licence, a National Identify Card or an International Passport.
