Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was one of the prominent Nigerians that paid their last respect to the late matriarch of the Awolowo family, the Late Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.
Ambode joined so many Nigerians from all works of life who gathered at the Awolowos’ residence in Park Lane, Apapa, Lagos, today, November 15, for the lying-in-state of the woman fondly called ”Mama Awolowo”.
Ambode who was in the company of his wife, Bolanle, was received by the children of the late Awolowo; the first daughter of the Awolowo family, Mrs Omotola Oyediran, her sister, Dr (Mrs) Tokunbo Awolowo and the grandson of Mama Awolowo, Mr Segun Awolowo.
Mama Awolowo’s body will be moved tomorrow, Monday, November 16, to Ibadan where another lying-in-state will take place at Oke Bola, Ibadan. From November 17-24, there will be another lying-in-state at Ikenne, the home town of the Awolowos.
Mama Awolowo passed on at the age of 99 on Saturday, September 19, as preparations for her centenary birthday were in top gear.
Meanwhile, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, has warned politicians not to politicise the death of the matriarch of the Awolowo family,
