Bad news, your cat probably wants to kill you

Bad news, your cat probably wants to kill you

Your pet cat is probably working out how to kill you, according to new research.

A study conducted at the University of Edinburgh and Bronx Zoo discovered that domestic felines are more similar to their wild big cat relatives than we’d previously thought.

When compared to snow leopards, Scottish wildcats and African lions, researchers found that domestic cats showed similar traits of aggression, neurotic behaviour, dominance and predatory instincts.

Psychologist Dr. Max Wachtel said: ‘They’re cute and furry and cuddly, but we need to remember when we have cats as pets, we are inviting little predators into our house.

‘For a lot of people, it’s worth it. Cats can be fantastic, sweet companions. Until they turn on you.’ He told 9News.

Wow, that seems a little dramatic.

Thankfully, because domestic cats are so small and they’ve been bred as companion animals for centuries, it’s unlikely they’ll ever be able to unveil their full predator potential on humans.

Wachtel added: ‘It’s good to understand the personality characteristics of our pets.

‘Different cats have different personalities. But as a species, there are a lot of commonalities.’

The study saw a total of 100 cats, from two different shelters in Scotland used in the experiment.

The other animals were examined from zoos and animal sanctuaries across the UK and US.
