Fayose Explains Absence From PDP Conference

Fayose Explains Absence From PDP Conference

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, said on Friday that his 55th birthday preparations kept him away from the national conference organized by the People’s Democratic Party in Abuja.

Although his birthday comes up on Sunday, November 15, he noted that a number of activities had been scheduled ahead of the event that prevented him from attending the conference.

Mr. Fayose, who spoke in Afao Ekiti, said his absence should not be misinterpreted, adding that he was in good terms with the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee.

He said he was solidly behind the NWC in its strides to reposition the party and return it to its winning ways that endeared it to all Nigerians.

“I am observing prayers here in Afao Ekiti. This weekend is my 55th birthday. I have been receiving several guests and I have a lot of people to meet and preparations to make,” Mr. Fayose explained.

“So, whatever the PDP leaders do at that level, I support them. I think the party even acknowledged the fact that there were things I have done here that had been of tremendous benefits to the party. So, my presence there to me means nothing. That is the way I feel.”

Mr. Fayose described himself as a consistent politician, who is different from those that “shamefully” defected to the All Progressives Congress shortly after President Goodluck Jonathan lost the April presidential poll.

“It pains me when those that had benefited from the PDP for 16 years shamefully joined the APC just because we lost election,” he said.

“I am not that kind of politician. I am with the PDP and I am committed to every effort being made by our leaders in Abuja to reposition it ahead of next elections. I support NWC and my absence does not mean I am fighting anybody.”

The governor added that the NWC members could attest to the fact that he committed all necessary logistics to the successful conduct of the conference targeted at repositioning the party.

“To me, my presence in Abuja is inconsequential. What I place high premium on is ensuring that I make the party very popular and acceptable in my base here in Ekiti, so that the PDP can continue to win elections here,” Fayose said.

“I will continue to do what I deem necessary to help the party to grow. I will always ensure that the PDP is on ground here in Ekiti.”
