The Federal Government through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on Wednesday opposed an application for bail by a former Managing Director of Nigeria Security Minting and Printing Company, Emmanuel Okoyomon, seeking release from extradition detention on health grounds.
Okoyomon, whose earlier bail application was refused by the Court of Appeal in Abuja on June 26, 2015, filed similar application before the appellate court on the grounds of his “deteriorating medical conditions” in prison.
The Justice Datti Yahaya-led panel of the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday heard Okoyomon’s bail application seeking his release from detention pending the determination of his appeal against the May 4, 2015 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which ordered his extradition to the United Kingdom within 30 days to face criminal charges preferred against him in the foreign land.
The appeal court has reserved ruling on the fresh bail application.
