It’s the story you thought you’d never read and we thought we’d never write… but take a deep breath because Katie Price and Peter Andre are back in contact. No, hell hasn’t frozen over – Now can reveal that the at-war pair’s relationship is finally thawing.
Ever since their split in May 2009 amid allegations [that have always been denied] that Katie had had an affair with her horse trainer Andrew Gould, Katie and Peter have been less than amicable – and with a court case looming things weren’t set
to get any better. But Now understands that the court case that has been bubbling for three years, and was finally set to be heard in January, could be heading for settlement.
Our source, a good friend of Katie’s says: ‘Katie wants to reach a settlement out of court and I think Peter would be interested in that happening, too.’ Katie’s friend adds: ‘He never wanted to go to court in the first place.’ In fact, Pete has made no secret of the fact he only ever wants to put the kids first. He’s said in the past: ‘I think that divorce absolutely affects kids, no matter what age they are and that if it can be avoided, it should be.’
Even Katie, 37, revealed in a statement: ‘The hope that we can one day be friends for the sake of the children is the only hope I have with respect to a relationship with Pete.’ However she has subsequently said she would ‘never speak to him again’, something she may be rethinking.
‘Katie was the one who launched the case originally but now she’s keen to see them settle,’ her friend continues. ‘Pete has never really wanted to go to court and after the last court case he would rather not go through the stress all over again.’
Our insider reveals that Katie now wants to meet Peter one-on-one, without a mediator present – so they can begin to move forward. This will be a massive step forward for the pair. ‘Katie’s overall goal is very clear,’ adds our well-placed insider. ‘She says she wants to get things to a place where they are civil.’
Pete has always said that all he wants is a happy family, and the pair seem to be moving towards that goal, with the help of their respective partners, Kieran, 28, and Emily, 26. Katie and Peter’s other halves are helping in the making-up process – by speaking directly to each other. Earlier this year, Katie revealed: ‘I talk to Emily and Kieran speaks to Pete. I like Emily and Kieran gets on with Pete. We make it work.’
‘There’s already been progress,’ says ours insider. ‘Kieran and Emily now contact each other directly whenever either of them is in charge of the hand over of the kids. It doesn’t always go through the nannies anymore.
While there’s some evidence of a breakthrough, we’re not holding out any hope for a family Christmas card. ‘They’re a long way off from being friends – but this is the first step in a more mature and adult relationship.’ adds Katie’s friend.
