Reggae singer, Majek Fashek has called on the government to look into how it can help rehabilitate mentally ill people.
The singer said this recently at the 46th Annual General Conference and Scientific Meeting of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN) in Lagos. He stated that majority of the people with mental illness have great potentials which can help boost the growth of the country if they get the right kind of help.
Majek noted that mental health was not a yardstick to look down on people, as there is need for an effective system to help manage the health issue.
"There is need to create a system to manage or rehabilitate people who are not mentally balanced and as well create more awareness on mental health challenges and appropriate management," he said.
"Government should look into how to rehabilitate mental health patients as most of them have great potentials and talents," Majek told the News Agency of Nigeria.
The reggae star weeks ago returned from rehab after a period of mental imbalance. The singer is known for his hit track 'Send Down the Rain,' among others.
