NIGERIA said its soldiers rescued 14 children and six women as they cleared terrorists in Rigaga and Bama villages in northeast Borno State.

“A number of terrorists were killed while two were captured alive” as the forces cleared militant camps in the area, Colonel Tukur Gusau, a spokesman for the military in the state said in an e-mailed statement.

The Boko Haram insurgency, which aims to establish a strict version of Islamic law in Africa’s largest economy and oil producer, has left thousands of people dead. Its cross-border attacks drew Cameroon, Niger and Chad into a regional military campaign.

Chad’s army said Nov. 2 it repelled attacks by the Islamists in the country’s west, in violence that left 19 assailants and four soldiers dead.
