Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state has disagreed with the verdict of the elections petitions tribunal which nullified his victory at the April 11 governorship election in the state.
The sacked Peoples Democratic Party’s governor promised to appeal the decision, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Ishaku made these comments at a press conference in the capital of Taraba state, Jalingo. He said that it is still possible that the Court of Appeal would reverse the judgment and give his victory back to him
The Abuja-based tribunal annulled the victory of Ishaku on Saturday, November 7. Senator Aisha Alhassan of the All Progressives Congress, popularly known as Mama Taraba, was declared the winner of the 2015 governorship election.
The development triggered mixed reactions. While Mama Taraba’s team were jubilating, the PDP declared that the outcome of the tribunal shows interference of the executive with the judiciary.
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state also shared the views of the opposition party, described the judgement as undemocratic and unconstitutional.
