An airport spokesman told MailOnline: ‘The taxi crashed at the forecourt of the Terminal 5 passengers departure terminal. A lane of traffic was closed off while an ambulance attended. This has now been reopened.’

The London Ambulance service said: 'We were called at 5.23am to reports of a road traffic collision at Heathrow Airport. We sent a number of resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, a single responder and an advanced paramedic.

'We treated one patient at the scene, a man reported to be in his 60’s, who was in cardiac arrest. He was taken as a priority to Hillingdon Hospital.'

The accident, first reported by AirLive.net, happened on a morning that fog has caused travel chaos in the UK.

More than 150 flights were cancelled today and dozens more delayed.

Travellers woke up to a second day of major travel disruption as dense mist left visibility at as little as 100 yards across the UK.

London Heathrow has already cancelled 50 flights this morning, while London City called off about 40 and there were 24 cancellations at Manchester.

Meanwhile 12 were cancelled at Edinburgh, 11 at Southampton, ten at Birmingham and six at Glasgow - but none at London Gatwick or Stansted.

The Met Office has issued a severe fog warning for most of England, which comes after Britain had its warmest November day on record.

Temperatures hit 22.4C (72.3F) in West Wales yesterday, and forecasters said the monthly record could be broken again today.
