Forget three months salary, if you really love your future bride, you'll give her a piece of your body.
A recently engaged California couple believes wholeheartedly in that sentiment. Lucas Unger proposed to Carlee Leifkes on Halloween, substituting the traditional diamond ring for one that holds his own wisdom tooth.
"We have never been the 'traditional couple,' why the heck start now?" Leifkes wrote on Facebook. The two met at a music festival in Canada earlier this year and reportedly came up with the ring idea together.
So incredibly excited to marry my best friend, the man who knows that his wisdom tooth means more to me than a diamond....

"My birthstone is a diamond. I don’t need one to prove how much someone loves me. He’d already moved all the way from Canada to do that," she told Buzzfeed.
Leifkes and Unger may very well be the first couple to use a wisdom tooth to tie the knot, but their non-traditional approach is part of a growing trend of young couples forgoing tradition with their engagements. The De Beers group, credited (somewhat negatively) with creating the trend of engagement rings, reduced diamond prices as much as 9% in August amid declining sales.
A wisdom tooth is forever.
