The United Nigerian Chaplaincy (UNC) has said it has the capability of stopping the pro-Biafran protests in the South East and any other violent protest from taking place in Nigeria.
According to the group, it can achieve this with its ability to integrate the various dominant religious groups in the country, Leadership reports.
Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the 29 new board members in Abuja, Ogemdi Ezeh, an executive board member of UNC said, the group the group is only interested in peace and hates any form of violence.
He accused the political class of being responsible for the violence in the country.
Ezeh said: “There is no problem or battle in this country that is not emanating from one church or mosque and 99 per cent of Nigerians claim to be Christians or Muslims. That’s why the UNC says it is both a Christian and Muslim group combining together efforts in search of peace.
“If both religious groups would talk to their members, there will be no battle. That is why I said UNC is the only body that is capable of stopping any battle from taking place.”
He added that the waves of violent protests in the eastern region should be arrested, saying the peace, democracy and economy of Nigeria should be guarded jealously.
On Wednesday, December 9, some prominent Nigerians said dialogue, rather than violence was the best way to solve the ongoing agitation for the Biafra republic.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Coalition Support Group, south-south chapter has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to intercede and dialogue with the Pro-Biafra agitators in order for peace to reign in the south-eastern part of the country.
