A 22-year-old man accused of stealing a generating set worth N25,000, Tomiwa Bolaji, caused a stir at the premises of the Ejigbo Magistrates' Court when he jumped down the storie building so as to escape from the court and evade trial.
The incident which happened earlier today, according to PM News, caused serious confusion as the police, court bailiffs, lawyers and security men gave him a hot pursued and was captured few street away from the court.
The suspect, according to the report, had successfully beaten the security guards before they could react and was about escaping through an adjoining street before he was caught.
Bolaji was charged to the court for stealing the generator belonging to one Moses Udeze at his residence, at 11, Adenekan Street where Udeze resides. While he was escaping with the generator, he was caught by the residents and handed over to the police at Ejigbo Division where he was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing under the Criminal Code.
The prosecutor, Ishaku Babaji, urged the court to give a short date to enable him present fact and sentence and consequent upon that, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi, ordered that Bolaji be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison while the case was adjourned till December 14, for judgement.
