A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore suggestions by the Peoples Democratic Party to probe former President Olusegun Obasanjo
The former commissioner in Lagos State said the suggestion was not well thought-out as it could distract the present administration’s anti-graft war.
In a statement by his media aide, Ahmed Salami, Bamidele also said the assurance given by the Federal Government that alleged looters of the N333bn arms fund might be spared if funds were returned had further confirmed that Buhari’s anti-graft war was not a witch-hunt.
“When former President Obasanjo of the Peoples Democratic Party started fighting corruption in his second term, he started from his first term of 1999-2003. He looked at the financial records and dealt with some people. He didn’t even bother to probe the immediate past administration of Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar.
“So, for President Buhari to leave Jonathan’s administration and start the probe from 1985 when Babangida became the Head of State to date stands logic on its head and such cannot be contemplated by a serious-minded person like our present President,” he stated.
