The former Minister of Aviation and member, Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, on Monday faulted the SleepinginAirports. Net, the global assessor of all airports, for ranking the Port Harcourt airport as the worst in Africa in its 2015 airports survey.
Fielding questions from the media after the committee concluded its inspection of facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Abuja (NAIA), Abuja, she said pointedly that the assessment carried out by that international organization was incorrect.
She said: "I do not believe that assessment was correct. I believe it was unfair. If you look at what aviation has done so far, where we are coming from which is in tandem with international best practice, I think that we have done very well. That assessment really is highly subjective and not fair. In my view, it is not fair and therefore not acceptable at all."
A top official of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who spoke to THISDAY on condition of anonymity, said: "The ranking was unfounded as it did not take cognizance of the fact that Port Hacourt as at the time it was being assessed did not take into consideration that it was remodeling with some of its terminal operations being carried out under temporary structures."
