The former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he narrowly escaped an attempt on his life along theNnamdi Azikiwe International Airport road.
Bamanga Tukur spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Prince Oliver Okpala, who said the ugly incident occurred while the elder statesman was on his way to Owerri via Abuja Airport to receive a doctorate degree award from Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri in Imo State.
He further explained that as his convoy, made up of four jeeps, was driving to the airport, Hilux van with tinted glassed emerged and attempted to break into the convoy heading towards Tukur’s jeep when his security escort prevented the attempts.
Bamanga tukur (CON) (born 15 September 1935) is a prominent Nigerian businessman and politician who served as Minister for Industries in the administration of General Sani Abacha during the 1990s. He is one of the high profile civil servants and military officers who acquired large areas of farmland along the various River Basin authorities.
He is currently as of 2012 the president of the Africa Business Roundtable. From March 2012 to January 2014, Tukur has been National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
