A man has spoken out about how he believed for 60 years that he was the only person in the world with a one-inch penis.
Thanks to the powers of the internet, however, Steve Baker (not his real name) has discovered that he’s not alone.
In fact one in 125 men are believed to be affected by the condition known as hypospadias.
Hypospadias is a congenital defect of the penis that leaves it with a malformed opening. Steve’s is at the side of the head, but for some it’s further down the shaft or even at the base of the penis.
The term also applies to those with a ‘micro penis’ – shorter than 2 and ¾ inches.
Steve, whose penis is just over an inch long, told MailOnline: ‘It was a huge relief to learn I wasn’t the only man affected.
‘Someone should have told me what was wrong with me because my life could have been very different. If my parents knew there was something wrong with me they never said, nor did the doctors who must have examined me as a baby.
‘Presumably they must have seen it. It’s all very sad. They must have just all been too embarrassed to mention it.’
He said the problem left him unable to get undressed in front of people and when he gets an erection it’s not the normal circumference and is no more than four inches long.
Steve went to a doctor in 1976 but rather than diagnosing him with hypospadias, he decided to circumcise.

However, that procedure was botched, removing nerves that mean he can’t orgasm and leaving his penis even more malformed.
He said: ‘I was left with no feeling at the tip or much sensation of any kind. If I’d known then the issue was hypospadias, I would not have gone near the guy. I have no idea why he decided to circumcise me, and the idea of complaining about the damage wouldn’t have occurred to me. It was all too embarrassing. I just had to live with it.
‘With the combination of lack of size and lack of sensitivity it became very difficult for me to have an orgasm.
‘I have the same sex drive as anyone else, the same desire for love and intimacy, but it takes me half an hour to 45 minutes to ejaculate. It is not a great basis for a relationship.’
He has gone on to have a family after marrying his best friend’s sister and they have two sons aged 30 and 28. However that marriage broke down.
Doctors say there are around 1,500 hypospadias corrections every year in the UK.
