Houses in north London were left without power after a faulty electrical box set fire to a shop in Tottenham.
UK Power Networks confirmed 25 houses across two streets – Grovelands Road and Lockmead Road – were plunged into darkness at about 4.30pm following the blaze.
Firefighters were called just after 4pm to the health shop, which has flats above it.
The shop was about 10 per cent damaged by the fire, but thankfully no one was hurt.
A brigade spokeswoman said “electrical apparatus” had started the blaze.
A UK Power Networks spokesman told the Standard: “There was an original fire that came from an electrical box and looks like it may have set fire to one of the properties.
“We cut off 25 supplies in the area.”
Householders took to social media as the blackout took hold.
Meir Taub (@Meir_Taub) tweeted: “A number of streets in #N15 #Tottenham with no electricity after #ElectricFire look after your vulnerable neighbours.”
And Daniella Myers (@Myver10) wrote: “Power out in N15?”
Power was restored at about 7.30pm.
