Transwoman thrown out of Miss Galaxy beauty pageant after saying she was born male

Ms Yendall called the decision ‘discrimination’
A transwoman was thrown out of a beauty pageant after she told organisers she was born male.

Jossy Yendall, 28, said that she had told organisers she was transgender when she applied for the Miss Galaxy 2016 pageant back in October, and even mentioned it in the first line of her online application.

After she was selected to take part in the grand final, Ms Yendall, from Gateshead, was told by organisers at the last minute that she was not eligible because she was born male.

‘Just before I went to pay my deposit to definitely, definitely secure my place, I said something along the lines of, “It’s great that you let a transgender female into the pageant, it’s going to open doors for people, it’s really going to make your organisation look good,”‘ Ms Yendall said.

‘I got an email back saying I was no longer eligible because on their rules it states that you have to be born female to be in this pageant.’

Ms Yendall, who said she first expressed a desire to be female when she was three years and began her gender transition more than a decade ago, called the decision ‘discrimination’.

‘I didn’t transition just to be transgender – I transitioned to be a woman,’ she said.
