Guzzle it up, it’s good for you .

There’s good news for all those who love to guzzle hot sauce like it’s water.

Because it transpires that hot sauce loves you right back, especially when you bring a little fat into the mix.

A ton of studies in recent years have shown the benefits of chilli peppers, due to the active component called capsaicin, which gives them their heat.

In August, scientists discovered that chillis could be the cure to treating obesity and that they could be the key to a longer life.

If you eat them three or more times a week, you have a 14% reduced chance of death, a study argued.

They’re brilliant for you, if you can handle the heat .
And in 2013, some scientists asserted that they could cure migraines.

Scientist David Popovich has found in his lab experiments that when he puts capsaicin on top of cancer cells, cell growth is reduced.

They don’t quite know why this happens yet, but they think it encourages old cells to be recycled into new ones.

And the best news is that you don’t even have to chop up a chilli to get the benefits.

Which is a relief, as anyone who has accidentally touched their eye (or other sensitive areas) after chopping a chilli knows.

Popovich told Time magazine: ‘Blending, cutting and cooking improve the release of [these compounds] from pepper tissue, increasing the amount available for absorption.’

This means you get even more goodness when you smother your food with your favourite hot sauce (though it’s best to avoid ones with lots of added sugar).

Simple. And it gets even better.

Capsaicin is a fat-soluble molecule so it works best when eaten with a little fat, because the body will absorb more.

Popovich said: ‘The bottom line is that any kind of vegetable material you consume will improve your health. But hot peppers are really beneficial for you, if you can take the spice.’
