Rita, who signed with Jay Z's label almost 7 years ago, is reportedly hoping the record label will be found in breach of California's 'seven-year rule' on contracts.
"Rita's relationship with Roc Nation is irrevocably damaged," claims the lawsuit.
"Her remaining supporters at the label left or moved on to other activities, to the point where she no longer had a relationship with anyone at the company."
It continues: "When Rita signed, Roc Nation and its senior executives were very involved with her as an artist."
"As Roc Nation's interests diversified, there were fewer resources available and the company suffered a revolving door of executives," adds the lawsuit.
Rita's latest solo single charted at a disappointing 22 on the Official UK Charts, while her recent collaboration with Sigma only managed to reach Number 15.
The album was originally scheduled to be released back in 2014 following the success of I Will Never Let You Down.
However, due to a battle with her ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, a number of tracks meant for her album were rumoured to have been scrapped
