CHAIRMAN, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko DanĀgote, has disclosed the plan to establish power plants in Kano and Abuja as part of a policy to develop power inĀfrastructure in Nigeria
He made this disclosure at the 38th Convocation lecture of the Ahmadu Bello UniverĀsity, Zaria, on Friday.
Dangote said the project was part of the companyās $5billion joint venture agreeĀment with Black Rhino Group, a subsidiary of the Black Stone Group to deĀvelop a power infrastructure in Africa.
This, he said, would go a long way to boost power genĀeration in the country. āWe are also furthering a new ground by investing in two 554Km, 3 billion square cubic meter feet gas offshore pipeline project, the first indigenous owned undersea gas pipeliĀnethat will supply gas to inĀdustries and power plants and it would be run from Bonny through Gas fields,āā he said.
In order to make Nigeria self sufficient in Sugar producĀtion, Dangote said plans were underway to cultivate over 260, 000 hectares of sugar plantation to produced 20 million metric tons of cane and 2 million metric tons of sugar. This is in addition to U$$1billion dollars also earmarked for commercial production of rice paddy. He further stressed the develĀopment of entrepreneurial capacity for sustainable ecoĀnomic growth.
According to him, the best approach to tackle the socio- economic problems confronting NigeĀria is to strengthen the small and medium entrepreneurĀship as well as eliminating the problem of power supply, lack of access to finance and a good regulatory environĀment. Dangote assured the university of his support for research and facility develĀopment.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi 11, who was the chairman on the Occasion, commended the effort of Dangote Group to transform the Nigerian economy.
