Justice Ernest Obimpeh
Justice John Ajet-Nasam
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate removal of Justice John Ajet-Nasam and Justice Ernest Obimpeh from the office of Justice of the High Court.
Reports say this is a result of revelations from the leaked videos made public by anti-corruption crusader, Anas Aremeyaw Anas. as well as President Mahama’s acceptance of the recommendations of a 5-member Impeachment Committee which investigated the conduct of the indicted justices.
A statement from the presidency indicated that the two High Court judges are being dismissed in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution for misconduct.
In August 2015, the Chief Justice, Mrs. Theodora Georgina Woode received two petitions from Tigereyepi, Anas’ outfit regarding 12 High Court Judges and 22 Circuit Court Judges and Magistrates caught on tape receiving bribes in return for diverting the natural course of justice.
The petition against the High Court Judges requested that the President initiate impeachment proceedings against these judges in order to fulfill Article 146 of the Constitution.
President Mahama has also directed the removal of Justice Ringo Cass Akurugu Azumah from office as a Justice of the High Court on grounds of stated misbehavior and incompetence.
