Governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, who was declared winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state by the Court of Appeal, has expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would uphold the judgment.
Otti had lost his case challenging the declaration of Okezie Ikpeazu, as the winner of the election at the lower tribunal, but he eventually secured victory at the Appeal Court when the five-man panel, sitting in Owerri, sacked the incumbent governor and ordered his (Otti’s) inauguration. Dissatisfied with the verdict, Ikpeazu and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had approached the apex court to reverse the judgment.
Besides there had been protests in Abia over the judgment with former Senate President Adolphus Wabara taking to the streets over the outcome of the case. However, Otti in an interactive session with newsmen in Lagos, on Tuesday, said he was hopeful that the Supreme Court would uphold the Appeal Court verdict.
