Abuja, Jan 5 - Nigeria does not need the assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said IMF chief Christine Lagarde during her visit to the African country. Nigeria is facing the consequences deriving from the fall in oil prices on international markets. "Let me be very clear: I'm not here nor is my team here to negotiate a loan with conditionalities, we're not programming negotiations," she said. She added:
"Frankly, given the determination and resilience displayed by the presidency and his team, I don't see why an IMF programme is going to be needed." Ms Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, spoke after having met with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari during a 4-day tour that will include meeting with the governor of the Central Bank and a visit to neighbouring Cameroon.
