Northern Youths React To EFCC’s Invasion Of Dikko's Home

Some youths under the aegis of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) have condemned the recent invasion of the private residence of former Comptroller-General of customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, by operatives of Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The northern youths described the invasion as undemocratic, barbaric and the worst form of state prosecution, The Nation reports.

Addressing newsmen on Monday, January 11 in Kaduna, the national president of NYCN, Comrade Isah Abubakar said the anti-graft commission’s ways of tracking suspects are full of disappointments.

The group which said it was in support of the anti-corruption war by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, alleged that the EFCC did not obtain a search warrant before barging into Dikko’s residence, scattering his family and personal belongings.

Abubakar said Dikko had done the country proud through various innovations and ideas that had increased effective service delivery and improved revenue generation while in service.

“In 2009, Alhaji Dikko set benchmark in capacity building especially in terms of service delivery, breaking new grounds in areas of re-orientation, training and retraining of customs officers.

“The NYCN is once more constrained to bring to the notice of Nigerians the opportunistic antics devised by EFCC in their quest to remain relevant by abusing people’s right, while applying tactics that had since become obsolete and uncivilized,” he stated.

According to Abubakar, to prove to the world that charity begins at home, the EFCC should have started with its former boss, Ibrahim Lamorde, who allegedly failed to account for a whopping N1trillion recovered loot.

The NYCN therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to call its anti-graft agencies to order or the war against corruption will be viewed as futile and selective justice by the international community.

The northern youths also called on Nigerians to stand up against impunity by the political class and security operatives in the country.

Last week, the home of Dikko was surrounded by stern looking mobile policemen and officials. The former custom boss was alleged to have used his office to carry out corrupt practices towards the tail end of his tenureullahi Dikko
