Ogun police arrest civil defence job scammer

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old man, Inusa Ali, for allegedly defrauding a job seeker identified as Oluwaseye to the tune of N124,000.

He allegedly defrauded the victim under the pretence of getting him enlisted in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The suspect, who hailed from Borno State, was reportedly arrested on Tuesday, January 5, at his residence at 15, Anifowose Street, Amolasho, Abeokuta.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspect was arrested by police detectives attached to the Abeokuta Area Command when a report of his criminal act was brought to the Area Commander in charge of the Abeokuta metropolis, by the victim.

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a forged letter of appointment on a fake letter-head of the NSCDC, and other documents were recovered from the suspect.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the suspect be charged to court immediately.

Adejobi added that the CP had also warned members of the public be wary of such unscrupulous elements who were scammers and perpetual criminals.

He said, “The CP, however, warns that the police command will not tolerate any act of criminality and extortion of innocent Nigerians in this manner.

“He also seize this opportunity to clear the air that police recruitment has not commenced, so members of the public are advised to be careful and avoid similar criminal act of scamming or extortion.

“The police command will make proper announcement when we commence our recruitment exercise.”
