A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state, Osita Okechukwu, on Monday expressed dismay at last weekend's defection of the former governor of old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Okechukwu in a statement made available to newsmen in Enugu insisted that before joining the now ruling party, Nwobodo should first clear himself of the allegation that he benefited from the Dasuki arms deal money, noting dumping his party midway amounted to "running away from justice".
Okechukwu who said he could not attend the party meeting where the former governor joined the APC as he was away to Bayelsa for the supplementary gubernatorial election said the cardinal war against corruption remained the cardinal programme of their party.
"To be candid, Chief Nwobodo used to be our model, a principled politician and a Zikist; but in more than a decade he has shed his principle and kind of descended into the arena of Food is Ready politicians. For instance in 2004, I was the one that led all the opposition leaders to his house after Ikemba and Buhari's post election tribunal sitting, with all the who is who, Ikemba Nnewi, Balarabe Musa, Olu Falae, Tunde Braithwaite, President Buhari et al. Nwobodo automatically became the chairman of the opposition and another meeting was scheduled.”
