High Court Orders Nollywood Actress to Pay N10m Damages to Beauty Pageant Queen for Cheating Her

Ibinabo Fiberesima

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt slammed top Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima N10 million fine instituted against her by ex-beauty queen, Miss Earth Nigeria 2011/2012, Munachi Chineye Uzoma.

Top Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who is a former president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has been ordered by Justice Adolphus Enebeli of a High Court in Port Harcourt to pay damages to Miss Earth 2011/12, Monachi Chineye for seizing her crown and other entitlements after winning the contest.

The court presided by Justice Adolphus Enebeli in its judgment agreed with the plaintiff, Miss Uzoma, that Fiberesima and former President Actors Guild of Nigeria and AMC Productions Ltd, cheated Uzoma and breached the contract signed 28 October, 2011.

Miss Uzoma, the winner of Miss Earth Nigeria 2011/2012, had approached the court when she discovered that Ibinabo Fiberesima and AMC Productions LTD breached a contract they signed with her in 2011.

Miss Uzoma accused Fiberisima of breach of contract for substituting her for a second runner up for a beauty pageant which Fiberisima and AMC Productions Ltd organised.

In his one hour judgment, Justice Enebeli berated Nigerians who desperately resort to cheat themselves and ordered the owner of AMC product Nigeria limited, Ibinabo Fiberesima, that the sum of N10.8million be awarded to the applicant, MISS EARTH NIGERIA 2011/2012 as damages.

The counsel to the claimant, Linus Ndatigh who spoke to newsmen after the judgment, explained the reasons why his client came to court, adding that their prayers were not fully taken but commended the judgement.

Also speaking, Miss Earth Nigeria 2011/12, Monachi Chineye said that what was happening in the world of beauty pageant was unbelievable.

"I thank God that the court has granted my request. What happened to me is unfortunate. I contested when I was young and I am 25 now, my dream was almost shattered. I am happy. You will be surprised to know what happens behind the scenes in every Beauty pageant. Thank God my case has been justified," Monachi said.
