The police in Jigawa State have reportedly arrested the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Salisu Mamuda.
Mamuda was said to have been invited by the police on the orders of the state government, Daily Trust reports.
In explaining the incident, an inside source reportedly said that the arrest was connected with the PDP Chairman’s criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led state government for spending over N400 million to receive defectors from the PDP.
“This singular statement from the PDP did not go down well with the state government, and that is why it threatened court action,” the source said.
The incident was confirmed by a spokesman for Governor Muhammad Badaru, Bello Zaki, who said that the state Ministry of Justice, had been directed to seek redress from a court of law on the state government’s behalf.
