It’s understood that the vehicle with number plate, Ogun AAB 163 XA, was on top speed and heading towards the Sagamu area to deliver some cartons of sausage rolls to customers, when the accident happened around 11am at the Ibafo end of the expressway.
According to reports, as the van was being driven on top speed, one of the back tyres burst forcing the vehicle to somersault.
Sympathizers quickly rushed to the aid of the victims and got them out of the van. Less than five minutes later, the vehicle exploded and went up in flames leaving the woman saying muttering, “Thank you Jesus ” as overheard by people at the scene.
It’s learnt that the driver of the van said he lost control immediately the tyre burst.
He said, “We were coming from Lagos and going to Sagamu to make deliveries of some sausage rolls. I didn’t know what went wrong. I just discovered that one of the tyres burst and I lost control of the van. It somersaulted several times. We are lucky.”
It’s also being said that the accident could have been made worse by the presence of a fuel-laden tanker by the roadside but the driver quickly drove it away from the scene immediately the explosion occured.
The fire was eventually taken care off by the Ogun State Fire Service while officials
of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived to control the traffic that had built up on the road.
