According to him, if politics was not sexy, his wife, Oluremi would not be in it.
The APC stalwart said this at ‘The Bola Tinubu colloquium,’ which was held in Abuja on Tuesday, to celebrate his 64th birthday.
In his speech, the former governor of Lagos State expressed gratitude to Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who he referred to as “my attorney-general”, for initiating the colloquium eight years ago.
Tinubu revealed that his wife was behind the drive to make politics sexy for the youths to participate in it.
“My wife, as you have (seen) from the documentary, was one of the youths, who were criticising us, the politicians. She said ‘make politics sexy so that youths can participate’.
“I got to the podium and said look at my wife, if politics is not sexy, what is she doing here? Remi, thank you for tolerating my trouble,” he said.
Adding his voice to the economic crisis currently confronting Nigeria, Tinubu said that “renaissance must come within” as the country has lands, minds and capacity to overcome challenges.
“I remember the article I wrote after the launch of the book, ‘Financialism: Fetching the Water from a Dry Well’. It was about this commodity exchange.
“The deceptive government of that time announced it immediately, that same week that commodity exchange had been established. It took an Ethiopian to discover their lies.
“Thank God we are taking it more seriously now. Our future is being redirected. I salute the president, the vice president and the entire cabinet.
“Nigeria is being redirected; there’s no option for us, but to revalidate our faith in our country and take the hard decision now. Our renaissance must come within. We have the lands, we have the minds, we have the capacity, we have the intellect, we have the ability,” he said.
