Wike: Amaechi came noisily but left shamefully

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, on Tuesday said the pomp and pageantry that heralded the arrival of Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, to the state ahead of the legislative rerun election reduced when he was leaving.

Addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who visited him at the government house in Port Harcurt, Wike said Amaechi failed in his plot to rig the poll.

He absolved President Muhammadu Buhari of the irregularities in Rivers, describing him as a man who believes in “one man, one vote”.

“Amaechi’s plot to rig the rerun election was for him to rubbish the supreme court judgment. He came back to the state noisily, but left quietly and shamefully.

“No army is stronger than the people. No police is stronger than our people. How many times will they cancel elections for the APC? Amaechi is not on ground in Rivers state.

“Those who were overzealous during the rerun election did so without the knowledge of the president.”

Wike alleged that Amaechi influenced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to “act beyond its powers by cancelling already collated and declared  results”.

He urged INEC not to cause crisis by “involving in illegality”.
