Some policemen engaged in armed robbery in the South-western part of Nigeria have been nabbed by police operatives.
Four policemen attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the Lagos Command are presently being probed over robbery allegations, according to DailyTrust.
The policemen were accused of attacking the driver of a truck carrying vehicle spare parts at Shagamu, Ogun State.
The suspects were alleged to have diverted the goods after successfully dumping the driver and his conductor near a bush.
It was gathered that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, ordered an investigation into the alleged robbery said to have been carried out on Saturday night at Shagamu, Ogun State.
Owoseni was said to have been so angry that he directed the team of investigators to report the findings directly to him. The leader of the SARS who led the team on the robbery is said to be one Inspector Durojaiye Taiwo.
Duroijaye and two other members of the team escaped, while one Victor Omorokai is presently detained in FSARS cell in Ikeja. Victor was arrested after a gun duel with policemen alerted by OC FSARS.
A police source said: “Four FSARS men from Ikeja, Lagos State Command, went to Shagamu to rob a trailer loaded with vehicle spare parts. Along the line, there was shootout between the FSARS men and some policemen. The detained policeman, Victor, said before they were confronted by another police team, they had supplied the goods to a receiver and collected N30m. the money is with Durojaiye.
"Durojaiye and two others escaped. The commissioner wanted to parade some suspects today, but because of this escapade by his men, postponed the parade. He is very angry.”
