A woman with the evil intent of extracting money from her husband, has staged the kidnap of her own kids.
The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday paraded a woman for allegedly organising the kidnap of her two children in Eleme.
In an interaction with journalists in Port Harcourt, the command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said the suspect planned the kidnap of her children with the intent to extort N6million from her husband.
Ahmad disclosed that her male accomplice was arrested when they went to collect the money they demanded from the husband as a ransom for the release of her abducted children.
Speaking with newsmen at the police headquarters, the suspect who gave her name as Abigail Brown denied kidnapping her children but claimed that she only took her children to her sister’s house while she was demanding money from her husband who had allegedly abandoned them for several years.
“I took my children to my sister’s house and asked for money from my husband but not the N6 million they are alleging.
“It was frustration that made me to start demanding money from my husband. My husband abandoned me and our two children for years. I did not kidnap my own children for money”, she said.
A male suspect who was arrested along with her over the incident denied his involvement in the crime.
The suspect, who simply gave his name as ThankGod, said he was a former driver to Abigail’s husband, adding that Mrs. Brown contacted him on phone to assist her take her two children to her sister’s house.
He also disclosed that on his arrest, Mrs. Brown said to him that she actually demanded for the N6million from her husband not as a ransom but for her education and her children’s upkeep.
“I was a driver to Mrs Abigail’s husband. When I was working with them as a driver in their school, the husband was maltreating her but she took me like a son. I later left them for driving job with another school in the same area.
“One day, Abigail called me on phone with my contact they have in the school that I should help her to take her children to her sister’s house and I did what she told me as my madam before. I did not receive money from anybody. But I was later arrested for kidnapping.
“When I asked her how it happened, she told me that she demanded for six million naira from her husband because she was frustrated, that she has been taking care of her academics in Bori in Khana Local Government Area of the State and also training her two children without support from her husband."
