A young boy shocked church members after he stormed a Cherubim and Seraphim church to perpetrate a criminal act.
The 17-year-old motorcyclist allegedy stormed the church and while everyone was apprehensive of his actions, snatched a worshiper’s handbag in a church premises and made away with it.
He was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for the criminal act.
The accused, Ridwan Onigbede, who resides at No. 10 Obajimi St. Surulere, Lagos is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing and breach of peace.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emada Victor, told the court that the accused on April 10, unlawfully entered the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Mushin, Lagos.
He alleged that the accused stole a wristwatch and a hand bag valued at N50,000, property of one Taiwo Ajoke.
According to the prosecutor, the accused entered the church premises after the service, where he snatched the complainant’s hand bag, containing her wristwatch and cash.
He said that the complainant raised an alarm which alerted other worshippers; adding that the accused was arrested and handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 306 and 166 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused, however,pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 5 for mention.
