Mr Ovie Anthony, President, Youth Wing of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), was reported to have been abducted by unknown gunmen.
Anthony, according to a source, was abducted by the captors at gun point on Friday night while returning from the UPU's meeting held at the Union's administrative office in Warri, Delta State.
The source said that Anthony was ambushed by the suspected kidnappers along Effurun/Abraka road at about 9:00 p.m. on his way to Abraka where he resides.
The victim was said to have been travelling with other four members of the union in an official bus when the hoodlums attacked, dispossessed them of their personal effects and whisked him away.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said that Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, had been briefed and had directed security chiefs to ensure the immediate rescue of the captive.
However, a close confidant of the victim, Mr Eric Okunima, said on Saturday in Warri that the criminals were yet to establish contact with the family.
Meanwhile, DSP Celestina Kalu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta Command, has confirmed the incident.
''Men of the anti-kidnapping team, military personnel as well as local vigilance groups have been dispatched to rescue the victim,'' Kalu said.
