A man has left plane passengers completely shocked and scared after he began making bizarre threats mid-flight.
The man who allegedly drank an entire bottle of vodka on a holiday flight to Greece was arrested after threatening to kill his girlfriend and abusing other and passengers and crew.
The pilot of the plane later described the experience as a “nightmare”.
He said: “We have had a nightmare. The man threatened our cabin crew, me and passengers and then threatened to kill his girlfriend and children who were on the flight with him.”
Looking visibly shaken, he told holidaymakers who were returning on the same plane back to the UK: “I’ve been told by the Greek authorities that he will be receiving a six-month suspended prison sentence .”
Police in Corfu arrested the 24-year-old air rage suspect after the aircraft landed on the island on Tuesday evening after flying out of Manchester.
The drunken air rage passenger, who is believed to be from Liverpool, had brought a bottle of vodka onto the plane in his hand luggage.
The pilot said: “This sort of incident shows exactly why we do not allow passengers to consume their own alcohol on our planes.”
He gave details of the sky-high drama when he addressed passengers in Corfu, whose easyJet flight back to Manchester, also being flown by him, was delayed for more than two hours while he gave statements to Greek police.
A spokesman for the airline said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY1977 from Manchester to Corfu on 7 June was met by the police on arrival in Corfu as a result of a passenger onboard behaving in a disruptive manner.
“EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.
“Whil such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard and always push for prosecution.
“The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority.”
A witness said: “The captain said the passenger had drunk an entire bottle of vodka. He was not drinking the little bottles served by the cabin crew, he was drinking his own.
“The pilot was very good. He explained to all the passengers waiting in Corfu the reasons why their flight was delayed. You have to feel sorry for the crew, it must have been a terrible experience for them.”
