Spain have appointed former Porto manager Julen Lopetegui as their new coach to replace Vicente del Bosque.
The former goalkeeper, who was recently linked with a move to England to replace Kenny Jackett at Wolverhampton Wanderers, has coached Spain at youth level extensively, having led the national under-19 and under-21s.
Lopetegui has been a free agent since being dismissed by Porto in January. The club acted after going three games without a victory, including a 2-0 loss to leaders Sporting Lisbon.
As a manager, the 49-year-old has coached Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid reserves and more notably Spain at Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.
After two years in charge of Porto, Lopetegui now joins the national coaching setup, but the appointment causes uncertainty over the managerial situation at Wolverhampton Wanderers as the Championship club were reportedly keen on hiring the Spaniard once a takeover was complete.
