President Muhammadu Buhari is set to launch a massive joint security operation against cattle rustling and banditry at the dreaded Rugu Forest.

The forest had remained the hideout of cattle rustlers and bandits whom have terrorise communities in seven states namely Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and Kano.

Governor Aminu Masari who disclosed this during launch of this year’s sales of fertiliser noted that the new drive is to ensure the cleansing of the forest criminals and miscreants.

According to him, the same attitude meted out to Boko Haram is coming the way of this rustlers as such  the time has come for people to renounced this illicit trade as government will spare no one no matter how highly placed if involved.

“We all know them, it is high time they desist; they live with us and should embrace peace and choose other legal means of livelihood” he said.

He said it is the responsibility of government to ensure the protection of lives and properties of its citizens saying that however people must also be security conscious and observe people’s dealings in communities.

Masari said with the priority given to agriculture, government has subsidised the commodity by about 75 percent as a bag shall be sold at 2500 Naira.

Earlier, the state deputy governor and Commissioner of Agriculture Mannir Yakubu said about 23, 000 metric tonnes of fertiliser have been procured just as 385 tractors are to be given to boost farming.
