About 16 secondary school students have put their families in crises after they allegedly escaped to another country with their lovers.
It is shock and worry for parents of 16 Secondary School students who are believed to be in love after they escaped to neigbouring Uganda from Kenya.
The incident has left parents' of the girls very worried.
Kenyans reports that the students from Matumbei School are said to have eloped with their lovers after being impregnated.
According to residents, men in the locality have been impregnating the students then evade arrests by escaping to the neighbouring country.
In a period of one year, parents in the school say they have lost 16 girls to the pregnancy menace with efforts to trace some of the students proving futile.
“They disappear together with the girls to Uganda because it's just nearby. Others escape to different regions within the country where they cannot be arrested,” stated one parent.
Another resident, Dorothy Cherop, narrated how her 15-year old niece got pregnant and left with the lover to Uganda. Ms Cherop narrated that they were yet to establish the whereabouts of the girl.
Endebes Deputy County Commissioner Peter Maina stated that a section of parents were frustrating attempts to curb the menace by accepting payments from their daughters' lovers.
“The sad part is that parents are being paid for their silence therefore, security officers aren't receiving proper information,” stated Maina.
Earlier, education stakeholders in the region had expressed concern over the high level of pregnancies among school children.
A report on early pregnancies implicated bodaboda riders as being the most notorious in contributing to the problem.
