The Governor, who is an old student of the Christ the King College, Onitsha, as well as his predecessor, made the open plea during the burial mass of their School Principal, Reverend Father Nicholas Tagbo, at the premises of their alma mater.
He did this in the presence of thousands of former school mates and a large number of priests who were present to honour the late renowned teacher and principal known for discipline, love, forgiveness and unity.
It was an unprecedented development for the people of Anambra State who hailed Governor Obiano’s action as the best in the interest of peace and unity of the state.
Reacting to the development, Governor Willie Obiano said that although he was unaware of what the challenge was, he deemed it wise to make the move in the spirit of the Reverend Father who taught them love and forgiveness.
Former Governor Peter Obi in his reaction, said that as Christians, it is important to forgive and whatever they, as leaders, are doing, the interest of the children of Anambra State should be paramount.
The Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, blessed the reconciliation.
