Ronaldo is just seven goals short of a century of goals in the Champions League, as Madrid begin their quest to defend their trophy against the Portuguese’s former club on Wednesday.
The three-time World Player of the Year, came through Sporting’s academy and scored the winner for Manchester United against the Portuguese club in 2007. But he has never faced them in a Madrid shirt.
“It’s a special match, it’s a special team. I wanted to draw Sporting again,” Ronaldo told UEFA.com.
“To play Sporting again is a privilege for me.
“It means a lot, it is the team that formed me, that I have in my heart, but I play for Real Madrid now.
“That is the club I have to defend, the club I love and that is why I want to win.”
