Ben Murray-Bruce: ’76 will be highest grossing Nigerian movie of all time

Ben Murray-Bruce: ’76 will be highest grossing Nigerian movie of all time

Ben Murray-Bruce, a senator representing Bayelsa east constituency, says historical movie, ’76, will gross $1 million in Nigerian cinemas and $4 million in Africa.

Murray-Bruce, who’s also the chairman of Silverbird group, said this on Wednesday at the private screening of the movie at Ozone cinemas, Yaba, Lagos.

’76 is about a pregnant wife of a young soldier accused of complicity in the abortive coup of 1976 .

Harping on the movie’s box-office potential, the senator described ’76 as a “money-making machine”.

“This is a great product by a great Nigerian to achieve what very few people have done. It is a history class”, Murray-Bruce said.

“Every body must watch this movie, listen and be a part of. If you understand wherre you came from, you certainly know where you are going.

“I believe this movie will make history for many reasons. One, it will educate us about what happened in the past. Two, I think it will make a lot of money.

“I think the highest grossing movie in Nigeria grossed N160 million. This movie will do a million dollars in Nigeria and five million dollars in Africa. I have a lot of experience in this. This movie should be a money-making machine.

“I urge all Nigerians to watch this movie, I urge all parents to haver their children watch this movie. Unless you understand what happened in 1960s-70s, you do not know the history of Nigeria.

“It is easy for us to criticise and complain but very few people understand what happened to our parents and grandparents.

“We must support Nigerian, we must support made-in-Nigeria hardwork. When God distributed intelligence to the world, he gave Nigeria equal share.”

Prince Tonye Princewill, while speaking at the launch, revealed to TheCable Lifestyle that there’s a possibility of producing a sequel for ’76.

Izu Ojukwu, the movie’s director, noted the production of ’76 started as far back as 2009.

’76 features some of Nollywood’s leading actors, which includes Rita Dominic, Ramsey Nouah and Chidi Mokeme.
