Brivery: Godswill Akpabio in DSS trouble

Ex-Akwa Ibom governor and senate minority leader Godswill Akpabio may already be in trouble with the Department of State Service (DSS) after a Supreme Court confessed to receiving bribes from him.

According to Sahara Reporters on Tuesday, October 18, Justice John Okoro has told DSS investigators that he received a bribe of $20,000 from Akapabio when he (Okoro) was appointed to the exalted judiciary position in 2013.

Akapbio was governor of Akwa Ibom for eight years, from 2007 to 2015 when he joined the upper legislative chamber, the Senate. It was during his second term in office, between 2011 and 2015 that he reportedly bribed Justice Okoro.

Okoro’s revelation came also as another of the two arrested Supreme Court judges, Justice Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta, who was reportedly caught with huge cash stashed at his home, claimed he made money from selling rice and palm oil.

Meanwhile, all of the seven arrested judges are likely to be arraigned tomorrow, Wednesday, October 19 in Abuja, Sahara Reporters says.

Earlier, the judge in charge of the Dasuki case, Justice Adeniyi Ademola withdrew from the trial of former national security adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Ademola, justice of the federal high court, whom the Department of State Services (DSS) accused of corruption,  announced his decision to withdraw from the trial before the court on Tuesday, October 18.
