An old man has gotten a lot of people stunned with a recent move he made to supposedly get his life back together.
An 89-year-old man identified as Joe Bartley has stunned people with his recent move.
The man got people talking after he put a job ad in his local paper asking for someone to give him a job to save him from "dying of boredom".
According to Cornwall Live, Joe Bartley, a retired soldier said he couldn't face sitting at home with nothing to do any longer so he decided to advertise for work in the paper.
He wants to find something to fill his days and pay his own way so he no longer rely on state hand-outs.
Mr Bartley, from Paignton in south Devon was in the army in 6th Airborne Division and later self employed as a signwriter but he says he has always been very active doing jobs round the home and gardening.
The newspaper ad
Despite retiring he still feels he has plenty to offer the work place and is now looking for regular employment for more than 20 hours a week.
He said: "My wife died two years ago and and I can't get used to living on my own and doing nothing. I am so fed up of being here stuck with nothing to do. There is only so much TV you can watch or books to read.
"I am still very capable of doing light menial work. I want a purpose to go out and the pride of having a job to go to five or six days a week."
He says he has been offered a few odd jobs but is looking for something more permanent so he can pay his own rent.
"I want to be able to earn enough money to pay for my own rent. I get housing benefits but I would like to pay for it myself. I'm old fashioned like that."
Mr Bartley's advert, placed in the Torquay Herald Express, says: "20hrs+ per week. Still able to clean, light gardening, DIY and anything. I have references. Old soldier, airborne services. Save me from dying of boredom!"
